Charity Song Date Released
Since 2016, Poppa T has helped run a young carers day once a year to give the kids a well-earned break. To win a place on the day trip each young carer enters a competition. Young carers are aged between 5 and 18years and help parents or siblings daily just to get through life.
“The camouflage we wear is truly the best” Poppa T explained, “was a line in the poem by Nathan Brady which inspired me to write a song about these incredible young people”.
The line says it all: they go in and out of shops, you pass them on the street, they go to school.
But they bear one of the greatest responsibilities on a daily basis, by caring for a family member.
There are 700,000 young carers in the UK. All camouflaged, you cannot see them if you don't know who they are.
Poppa T says he decided to write a song about their typical day and some of the issues they face.
Nathan Brady the author of the poem is also credited to the song.
The song, “Walk a Mile in my Shoes'', is an insight into the challenges for young carers who can be as young as 5 years old. Their lives are driven by home life, whether looking after siblings or parents who have challenges of their own. Poppa T’s granddaughter, Olivia represents the young carers in the song.
We ran a painting competition to design the album cover, the response was so good we picked not only the CD cover but the disc cover as well. comments Poppa T. “Walk a mile in my shoes'' is accompanied by two other songs.
The song will be released on August 29th and will be available online. A CD will be available from our web site priced £10.00. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the young carers.
A special day out for young carers happens each year ( lockdowns pending ) on the same day in all parts of the world. Poppa T's involvement with the local group is to organize a day out at Liverpool Airport which consists of a flight, and tours around the hangars and Liverpool’s air traffic control tower. It's organized by the rotary e-club of aviation of which he is a member.
Poppa T chips in “I heard one young carer say to her friend” ‘I don't know why I'm here - I haven't done anything special”. See? no one can see through the camouflage of these young carers!”
